How to Shape Series: Be Present

Your presence at every holiday gathering this holiday season is a present - but you already knew that ;) So how do you commit to being in the now and forming the most memorable moments with your loved ones? Read on to learn mindfulness tips & find gifts to help you stay present this season.

Tip: Balance the past, present, and future

With the buzz of the holidays in full swing, we often let the present slip away. We rarely allow time to practice stillness and calm. In order to truly live in the moment, we need to shift our focus from putting so much stress on our futures and regret on our pasts, to the present.

Present: This bra is the perfect balance of comfort and secure support.

Tip: Detach from your phone

Though our phones keep us connected to others, it also becomes a judgment zone where you judge others or even judge yourself in comparison. Whenever you can, put the phone down and observe your surroundings. Enjoy a moment of peace.

Present: These leggings are a great gift for someone who craves a bit of adventure.

Tip: Love your job

We spend around 70% of our time at work. Rather than constantly ‘surviving’ another workweek, find something you truly appreciate about your career. A positive view of your day-to-day can give you so much time back.

Present: The best motivator for a job well done - these work & play pants.

Tip: Build body awareness

Build Body Awarenes

To build better body awareness, have a check-in with your body. No, this doesn’t mean you need a full-on workout. This means a mindful body scan, where you take a moment and pay attention to your body without bias. Feel the tension and relaxation in different areas.

Present: A super-stretchy panty you forget you’re even wearing.

Tip: Tap into your senses

Focus on the present: From the sweaty dancefloor at a party to sitting at an open window and feeling the breeze. Practice savoring moments and cultivate unselfconsciousness (aka feel free to be your most raw, true self).

Present: The cami that feels like a literal hug.

When you are here and now, sitting totally, not jumping ahead, the miracle has happened. To be in the moment is the miracle. - Osho

Tip: Pause before the next new experience

Pause before the next new experience

Like the rest of these useful tips, it doesn’t have to take a huge amount of your time, but be sure to pause before moving on to something completely new. For example, leaving unfinished work tasks or an unpaid bill on your brain may distract you from living in the now. We suggest a few minutes of meditation and/or mindfulness between each new endeavor. It’ll make a huge difference.

Tip: Make a mindful review of your day

Whether you love to journal or just mentally reflect once a day, take stock of your moods as you move through your daily routines and experiences of memorable events. This will give you just another opportunity to be mindful at the end (or beginning) of your day.

Present: This thick-strapped tank we love to lounge and sleep in.

If you’re aware of you reading this, the temperature and smell of the room, your breath inward and out, your abdomen rising as you inhale, and the release of your breath on the exhale - this is it. You met your goal to be mindful today.
